Evaluation of levels of possible entry of fumonisins B1 and B2 in infants and preschool children

It has been established that the average calculated weekly dietary intake of fumonisins does not exceed the value of conditionally tolerable weekly intake of fumonisins B1 and B2 (CTWI) in both infants and preschool children. For infants, the calculated weekly intake of dietary fumonisins ranged from 0 to 11.08 mcg/kg body weight, on the average, it was – 2.01 mcg/kg body weight. For preschool children, it was lower: from 0 to 4.8 mcg/kg body weight, and the average weekly intake amounted to 0.8 mcg/kg body weight. For infants and preschool children who regularly consumed maize products the calculated weekly intake of fumonisins averaged 3.19 and 1.18 mcg/kg body weight. This places infants and young children in the risk group.
