Lactose intolerance: current approaches to diagnosis and treatment
The lecture deals with lactose intolerance – a clinical manifestation of lactase deficiency, which can be a hereditary or acquired condition and is characterised by a decrease of the activity of lactase, the enzyme that cleaves lactose, the sugar component of milk, in the intestines. Disease might be either latent or manifest and, as a rule, only manifest cases with the formation of metabolic disorders, growth delay or influencing social activity are diagnosed.
