Assessment of psychological features, body composition and actual nutritional status in women of various age groups with eating disorders

Objective. To study psychological features, body composition and parameters of actual food intake in women of varied age groups with eating disorders.
Patients and methods. The study included volunteers – young and mature women. The Dutch Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (DEBQ) was used for analysis of the types of eating behaviour. The severity of an eating disorder and its character were assessed by the «Eating Disorder Inventory». The actual mental state of the subjects was studied using a clinical and psychological test – the Symptom Checklist (SCL-90-R). The body composition was estimated by a bioimpedance analyser. The actual food intake was assessed by frequency analysis using the software «Human nutrition analysis».
Results. As demonstrated the «Eating Disorder Inventory», higher scores on the bulimia scale were found in groups of women who had a combination of emotional and restrictive eating disorders and a combination of all types of eating disorders. According to the SCL-90-R test, these groups also had higher scores on the scales of somatization, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, anxiety. Higher levels of energy intake due to consumption of mono- and disaccharides were found in the groups of subjects who had a combination of all types of eating isorders. The groups of mature women with eating disorders higher values of the body mass index and body fat.
Conclusion. We have specified the psychological, dietary and morphological factors associated with eating disorders.
