Cytokine balance in patients with recurrent psoriasis and concomitant chronic hepatitis C
Objective. To assess the levels of a proinflammatory cytokine (tumor necrosis factor-α, TNF-α) and an anti-inflammatory cytokine (interleukin-10, IL-10) in patients with psoriasis and chronic hepatitis C.
Patients and methods. This study included 42 patients with psoriasis, divided into two groups: with and without chronic hepatitis C.
Results. Patients with progressive psoriasis demonstrated increasing serum levels of both TNF-α and IL-10, which were associated with the disease stage, severity, and presence of chronic hepatitis C.
Key words: psoriasis, interleukin-10, chronic hepatitis C, tumor necrosis factor-alpha.
