New methods of correction of health problems and preservation of breastfeeding in the mother–child dyad
In this article, we describe non-pharmacological methods of correction of health problems in newborns used in Russia and France (kangaroo care, local massage of the palms and feet, finger training, general massage, Voight gymnastics, correctors of the infant's body position (laying, rollers, pillows, ‘nests,’ ‘cocoons’), psychological techniques, hydrotherapy, etc.). Particular attention is paid to the support of breastfeeding and prevention of mastitis using Lactobacillus fermentum Lc40 (СЕСТ5716), isolated from breast milk. This strain was used for the development of the dietary supplement Lactanza (LACTANZA Lc40 hereditum®, «Biosearch S.A.», Spain). The Lc40 is effective for both prevention and treatment lactostasis and mastitis in breastfeeding mothers (it was shown to reduce the risk of mastitis by 2 times and the frequency of its recurrence by 3 times). Moreover, Lc40 can be used to improve infant’s condition (infants receiving Lc40 were 3 times less likely to have gastrointestinal infections during the first 6 months of life and 2 times less likely to develop them between 6 and 12 months; the frequency of acute respiratory infections was decreased by 27% between 6 and 12 months of age). Nursing mothers recommended preventive course of Lactanza is 1 capsule per day during the first 12 weeks after delivery.
