Diagnosis of acute respiratory viral infections in children with acute hemorrhagic syndrome

Uncontrolled use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can lead to serious complications, thus hampering diagnostic procedures. We report a case of late (post-mortem) diagnosis of influenza A (H1N1), complicated by respiratory distress syndrome and Reye's syndrome associated with the use of NSAIDs in a child with congenital cardiovascular disease.
Key words: acute respiratory disease, Reye's syndrome, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, ibuprofen, congenital cardiovascular disease.
