Influence of immunotherapy during pregnancy on the health of children in case of lower levels of natural antoantibodies to nerve tissue proteins

The objective. To study the effect of immunotherapy during pregnancy (immunoglobulins, interferon-a2b) on the health of children in case of lower levels of natural autoantibodies to nerve tissue proteins.
Patients and methods. The study included 57 pregnant women and their born children. We included only women with lower levels of natural autoantibodies (AAB) to total myelin protein (TMP), S-100, fractions of anionic non-histone chromatin proteins (ACBP-C) and brain membrane proteins (MP-C). The basic group (n = 32) received immunotherapy (interferon-a2b, immunoglobulin), the control group (n = 25) did not receive any immunity-correcting therapy. The health of children was investigated by their medical records (form 026/u) up to the age of 3–4 years.
Results. Children born of mothers with lower levels of AAB to TMP, S-100, АСВР-С, МР-С during pregnancy, who did not receive immunotherapy, were most often premature (p = 0.017); in asphyxia (p = 0.008); with significantly lower health scores at birth (Apgar scores at 1 minute – 7.03 ± 2.01 and 6.08 ± 1.9, at 5 minute – 8.09 ± 2.3 and 7.32 ± 1.8 in the basic group and the control group, respectively). Changes on neurosonography are more often found in children from the control group (p = 0.02), they are more marked and require more time for compensation, therefore such children are more frequent patients of neurologists (p = 0.0004). Children in this group more often fell ill with pneumonia (p = 0.04).
Conclusion. Administration of immunotherapy during pregnancy in women with lower levels of the studied AAB makes it possible to improve the outcomes of pregnancy and labour, and also the children’s health.
